Size does matter

Description: You may have wondered why your grandmother's glass collection is so large. You only see her using the largest of the glasses.

Earlier, it was prestigious to have many different types of glass, and originally a glass set included up to 18 glasses per person.

Today, a glass collection usually has eight types of glass. Although few has such a large set, most can still agree that it feels wrong to drink schnapps of a red wine glass.

Here you will find a small guide to the glasses that are most often found in our homes - and to the alcohol that the glasses are meant for.

Schnapps is a strong alcohol. That's why you drink it in small quantities. The tax on alcohol was risen in 1917, so small antique glass are rare and larger are more common.

We drink water mainly for practical reasons. Water glasses are available in varying sizes, but usually they are relatively large in size.

Port wine is a sweet liqueur that is most often drunk for desserts. The glass is larger than the schnapps glass.
The liqueur has a rich aroma, which is best served in large diameter glass. That's why we drink liqueur from a bowl.

White wine glasses are smaller than red wine glasses, as the wine is served with light meals of the meal. The glass is often green to conceal any. precipitation in the wine.

Red wine is served for the main course. The taste is expanded when oxygenated, which is why red wine glasses have a large diameter.

Beer glasses are either without a foot in the same shape as a water glass or in the maner of a red wine glass. Beer has a low alcohol percentage. That's why we like to drink larger quantities of it.

Champagne is for celebrations and it is either drank in a bowl or a flute. Some people say bowls are before 6 pm. and flutes after 6 p.m.

In general, high percentages are served in small glasses. If you have questions on this post, you are always welcome to come over for a talk in the store in Store Kongensgade.

Yours sincerely,
