Description: Height 16 cm.
Antique English drinking glass with nice inlaid white spirals in the foot.

The glass is mouth blown with a large attached foot, to give the glass extra stability.
The stem with an inlaid spiral in white glass tubes. This technique is called zanfirico.

The stem is made by collecting a bundle of bars of white and clear glass and heating it until it becomes a soft plate. This is then fixed to two glass-making rods and extended by pulling it gently, at the same time it was twisted to make the spiral pattern.

Zanfirico, also known as vetro a retorti, is named after the Venetian art dealer Antonio Sanquirico, who in the 1830s called on Murano to resume many of the traditional techniques.

The glass is in really good condition.
