Hermann Bongaard was a Norwegian designer, artist and painter, especially active in the 1950s and 1960s.
He graduated from the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in 1941, where also Torbjørn Afdal, Sigurd Ressell and Fredrik A. Keyser also graduated from.

In 1947 Bongaard received an eight-year scholarship at Christiania Glasmagasin and its sister company Hadeland Glasværk, one of Norway's oldest companies. Here he worked closely with Johan Wilhelm Johansson and won both silver and gold medals at Triennale di Milano in 1954 for his K-1023 vase and a glass service to the Norwegian embassies.

Despite this great success, Bongaard went away from the glass and into the porcelain at Figgjo, furniture, textiles and painting.
