Description: Small plate in light terracotta with painted base in bordeaux from Lauritz Hjorth, Denmark, with Motif by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844) entitled "Amor at Sea". Made in the late 19th. century. In perfect condition. Factory marks on the back. Two holes in the bracket on the edge of the plate. 6½ cm in diameter. Cupid ruler of the sea, we understand here, where he with Neptune's trident in his hand rides proudly over the crests on a dolphin (quote: Thorvaldsen's museum Web site) motif is part of the series Amor's dominion over the four elements . The originals are made in plaster in Rome in 1828.
