Blue Pheasant is a faience dinnerware service. The decoration dates back to the early 20th century when people appreciated and cherished nature, just as the present generation does now. The decoration was created by Christian Joachim (1870-1943), he was the artistic driving force in the renewal of Danish faience around the turn of the century. Danish faience has become a treasured cultural heritage, characterized by generous, sweeping shapes and liberally applied decorations in exuberant colors. In 1990 Royal Copenhagen reproduced the decoration to a dinner service. Blue Pheasant is dominated by an imaginary bird in blue and yellow in a style that is very characteristic of Joachim's work. Faience is fired at rather low temperatures, and this makes it possible to use many different colors. The fine faience glaze produces a special dept of color and refraction that give the colors intensity and luster.
