Bio:
Sigvard Bernadotte (1907–2002) was a Swedish prince and an important Scandinavian designer. He studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and began a long collaboration with Georg Jensen in the 1930s. Strongly influenced by Functionalism, Bernadotte developed a restrained and elegant design language that helped lead Georg Jensen’s silverwork towards a more modern aesthetic. His Bernadotte cutlery was designed in 1939 and is particularly recognised for its distinctive parallel fluting and combination of function and refined simplicity.
